On September 25-29, 2017, The Astrophysical Observatory of Ilia State University organized an international conference on the topic “our mysterious Sun: magnetic coupling between solar interior and atmosphere” at Tiflis Palace Hotel, in Tbilisi. Financial support for the conference has been provided by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.
The conference aims to review the outcomes achieved in the last years, the existing issues and provide solutions to them; it also aims to promote further involvement of Georgian scientists into international research as well as contribute to the development of new connections with the world’s leading scientists and research institutions.

World leading scientists will also attend the conference:
Holly Gilbert (Deputy director of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), USA)
Sami Solanki (Director of Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Germany)
Speeches will be delivered by other specialists and young scientists from different countries around the world.
The sun is our most important celestial body on which life on the earth depends. The sun makes a tremendous impact on the earth and the interplanetary space. As a result of developments on the sun billions of tons of substances erupt which reach the earth and cause geomagnetic storms influencing cosmic satellites, telecommunication systems and human health. Accordingly, the modern civilized world is closely connected to the developments taking place on the sun, which is why the study of these developments and prediction of them is of utmost significance for scientific-technological progress of our civilization.
The sun has been under observation for decades at Abastumani astrophysical Observatory, and even today our scientists, together with leading researchers around the globe, have been studying our mysterious celestial body.
