Public Lecture by Professor Nebahat Avcıoğlu

On October 12, at 17:00, Prof Nebahat Avcıoğlu will deliver a public lecture on the topic “examples of modern and contemporary architecture in Europe, Russia and Turkey.”

About the Speaker

Prof. Nebahat Avcıoğlu is an art critic and Islamic architecture specialist. His last paper is on mosque-museums in Europe. These unusual buildings are of hybrid nature and, as the researcher considers, they perform both theological and civic functions. Two buildings of this type are discussed in the paper – Vatan Memorial Complex in Dagestan (2004), The Oriental Institute built by Gottlieb Wilhelm Leitner and Shah Jahan Mosque in London (1889).
