The European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) was developed in 2004 with the objective of avoiding the emergence of new dividing lines between the enlarged EU and its neighbours; also to strengthen the prosperity, stability and security of all.
However, over the past years, there has not been too much stability nor security in the Eastern Partnership region. Growing realisation that the Eastern Partnership framework did not adequately diversify relations with different countries resulted by a new European Neighbourhood Instrument in 2014; which provides bilateral assistance to Georgia for 2014-2017around €400 million. In May 2015 Riga Summit will take place, where decision on Georgian visa-free access to the EU is also expected.
Besides ENI, Georgia can benefit from other EU programs (Erasmus+, Horizon 2020 etc) but also from bilateral cooperation (for example development cooperation aid from Estonia, Poland etc. for educational institutes, NGOs, municipalities).
