
Abstract about the workshop:
First step: what makes a city become attractive?
Based on an analysis of attractive, vital and well-designed districts of global cities, students evaluate the parameters of the 5 „D“s: density, diversity, design, destination and distance.
In this workshop the topic is to implement this parameters in an existing context at the K. Marjanishvili Street by active urban interventions in positions that are critical. The challenge is to bring it to a positive and sustainable change.
Bio:
Johann-Peter Scheck is Professor in Urban Design and Architectural Design at the OTH Technical University Regensburg (Germany).
After his studies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland), he worked in
Berlin for 15 years. As prizewinner of several competitions in Germany, he realized urban design projects, public and private buildings and developed also social projects in disadvantaged districts of Berlin.
His international activities as Guest Lecturer in Versailles (France), Milan (Italy) and Qingdao (China) led him deepen his knowledge of global cities.
Currently, Prof. Scheck develops a new town in China.
