The lecture is based on Frederiksen\u2019s new book \u201cAn Anthropology of Nothing in Particular\u201d (Zero Books, 2018).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite a number of theoretical differences, the hermeneutical principles of meaning and coherence used to form the basis for anthropological writings. However, issues such as nothingness and empirical meaninglessness or incoherence question the above-mentioned forms of writing and social world analysis. The paper starts with Jean-Paul Sartre\u2019s and Susan Sontag\u2019s statements that nothing exists and \u201cto interpret is to impoverish\u201d, which will allow the speaker to examine the meaning of these statements in terms of anthropological analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Demant Frederiksen is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Social Anthropology, the University of Oslo. He is the author of the books \u201cYoung Men, Time, and Boredom in the Republic of Georgia (2013), \u201cGeorgian Portraits: Essays on the Afterlives of a Revolution\u201d (2017) and \u201cAn Anthropology of Nothing in Particular\u201d (2018).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Language<\/strong>: English<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time<\/strong>: 12 March, 19:00<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location<\/strong>: Room A103, Ilia State University (32 I.
