SUMMARY:The National Teacher Prize 2023 Opening Ceremony was Held
DESCRIPTION:the nomination and application period for the  National Teacher Prize 2023 began with the opening ceremony held at the Ilia Chavchavadze Literary-Memorial Museum. \nThis contest\, initiated and organized by the Education Coalition\, is held for the seventh time this year and aims to identify successful teachers\, introduce them to the general public and thus enhance the prestige of the teaching profession. \nThe event organizers spoke about the terms and conditions of the contest\, campaign phases\, the jury\, supporters and the final event. A Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between the Education Coalition and Alte University was signed at the meeting. According to the MoC\, Alte University becomes a partner of the National Teacher Prize and will award the winner at the 2023 final ceremony. Moreover\, Alte University will be an exclusive partner of the National Teacher Prize Top Ten club. \n“We launch the National Teacher Prize campaign for the seventh time this year and we are delighted that today it is the most well-known\, prestigious and recognized professional contest in Georgia. One of the key factors is the successful cooperation between the public and private sectors. The jury composed of publicly recognized individuals in the education field is another factor. This year the jury has been increased by two members:  Lika Ghlonti (head of the EU4Dialogue Project) and Davit Gorgiladze (author); Alte University has also joined the list of supporters. There is no change in any of the qualitative aspects\, technically and procedurally. Therefore\, everything remains the same for teachers and we expect their active involvement” – said Irina Khantadze\, the Education Coalition Board Chairperson. \n„Since 2019 Iliauni has been cooperating with the Education Coalition as part of the National Teacher Prize campaign. Such projects aim to promote the teaching profession and school education development in general. One of the important tasks for Iliauni is to provide a scientific response to the challenges facing society. In this regard\, the University plays an important role in the sustainable development of both the country and society. We believe that the future long-term development of Georgian society today depends on education. School education itself plays a unique role in the education system. Therefore\, as part of this prize\, as well as other scientific and academic projects\, Iliauni fully supports any project or initiative which ultimately results in better schools\, promoting the teaching profession and contributing to the future development of this essential part of the education system” – said Professor Giorgi Gvalia\, Vice Rector of Ilia State University. \nThe nomination of teachers and submission of applications will be possible from March 17 to April 30 at the National Teacher Prize website: www.tprize.ge \nIndividuals\, organizations and public groups are eligible to nominate teachers. \n2023 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:"Georgian Poem. Structure and Semantics" - The Presentation of Tamar Lomidze's Monograph
DESCRIPTION:The book house “Ligamus” will host the presentation of the monograph “Georgian Poem. Structure and Semantics” (Tbilisi: TSU Publishing House\, 2021) by Tamar Lomidze\, visiting professor of Ilia State University\, on March 10\, at 18:00. \nAbout the monograph \nThe monograph consists of three chapters: \n\nFor the first time\, the influence of Neoplatonic philosophy on Chakhrukhadze’s laudatory poem “Tamariani”\, the monument of Georgian literature of the 12th century\, has been studied;\nThe interrelationship of metric and natural accentuation in Shota Rustaveli’s “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” is discussed. It is concluded that the metric accentuation of “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” was formed on the basis of the archaic linguistic accentuation\, which determined its function within the framework of syllabic-tonal composition;\nThe formal-semantic features of the genre of Georgian poem versifying alphabet of the XVII-XVIII centuries are investigated and it is substantiated that they correspond to the main characteristics of the so-called “The Classical Episteme” (M. Foucault).\n\nWorking language: Georgian \nTime: March 10\, 18:00 \nLocation: Book House “Ligamus”\, I. Chavchavadze Ave. N32 \nAttendance is free. \n2023 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:Defense of the Dissertation by the Doctoral Student Svetlana Berikashvili
DESCRIPTION:The defense of the dissertation “Differential Subject Marking in Georgian” of Svetlana Berikashvili\, the doctoral student of the Carl Friedrich Lehmann-Haupt International Doctoral Program of the joint transdisciplinary international doctoral program of Ilia State University and the Georg-August University of Göttingen (Germany) will be held in the G106 auditorium of Ilia State University on February 7\, at 14:00. \nThe program gives the doctoral student the opportunity to defend the dissertation through the model based on the Cotutelle principle and to receive a double doctoral degree and a diploma from both universities. \nThe doctoral student studies the Differential Subject Marking (DSM) in the Georgian language within the framework of the theory of generative syntax and concludes that the differentiation of subject cases is not only the result of the operations that occur after the syntactic representation in the morphological structure (MS) at the phonetic form (PF) level\, on the contrary\, both assignment of case and agreement based on the assigned case (dependent\, unmarked\, etc.) are part of the syntax. The dissertation explains the assignment of the so called “non-canonically labeled” ergative and dative cases of a subject through a pure DC algorithm and concludes that DC Theory is sufficient to analyze the assignment of structural cases. \nScientific supervisors from the Georg-August University of Göttingen:  Professor\, Dr. Hedde Zeijlstra (UGOE)\, Professor\, Dr. Anke Holler (UGOE) \nScientific supervisors from Ilia State University: \nProfessor\, Dr. Nino Doborjginidze (ISU)\, Professor\, Dr. Irina Lobzhanidze (ISU) \nWorking language: English \nTime: February 7\, 14:00 \nLocation: G106 auditorium of Ilia State University \n2023 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:"Resistomes of probiotic and starter cultures as potential risk factors for the spread of antibiotic resistance" - Public Lecture by Bojana Bogovič Matijašić
DESCRIPTION:Bojana Bogovič Matijašić\, Senior Research Fellow at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana\, Head of the Institute of Dairy and Probiotics\, and and Leader of the research program Nutrition and Microbial Ecology of the Gastrointestinal Tract\, will give a public talk on the topic “Resistomes of probiotic and starter cultures as potential risk factors for the spread of antibiotic resistance” in the G106 Auditorium of Ilia State University on December 15\, at 16:00. \nAbout the Lecture \nThe professor will present the results of the newly completed project “Resistomes of probiotic and starter cultures as potential risk factors for the spread of antibiotic resistance”. \nThe intensive use of antimicrobials in human and veterinary medicine over the past 50 years has led to the problem of antibiotic resistance in pathogenic microorganisms and reduced the effectiveness of treatment of infections\, which the World Health Organisation has declared one of the greatest threats to health. Probiotic bacteria\, starter cultures intentionally introduced into the food chain\, and naturally fermented foods have also been identified as reservoirs of resistance. But the actual risk of these products in terms of resistance has not yet been properly evaluated. \nIn the present study\, an approach combining conventional analyses with genomic and metagenomic analyses was used to assess the burden of starter and probiotic cultures with antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and the risk of transmission of ARGs found. \nIn addition\, in collaboration with the George Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages\, Microbiology and Virology (Prof. Nina Chanishvili\, Head of R&D Department)\, previously characterised isolates from artisanal Matsoni products collected in Georgia were examined by comparative genomic analyses and evaluated from a safety perspective. \nAbout the Speaker \nBojana Bogovič Matijašić is a Senior Research Fellow at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana\, Head of the Institute of Dairy and Probiotics\, and leader of the research program Nutrition and Microbial Ecology of the Gastrointestinal Tract. Her main interests are characterization of lactic acid bacteria and their metabolites\, studies of functionality of probiotics and their \nmetabolites\, studies of gut microbiota/microbiome and resistomes. She supervised 6 young researchers\, 5 doctoral dissertations and several master’s or bachelor’s theses. She delivers lectures to master’s students in Biotechnology\, Food Science and Nutrition courses\, and to doctoral students in Biosciences. \nWorking language: English \nTime: December 15\, 16:00 \nLocation: Ilia State University\, G106 Auditorium\, G. Tsereteli St. N1 \nAttendance is free. \n2022 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:“The Demise of a Just City - The Urban Transformation of Amsterdam”
DESCRIPTION:Ceren Sezer will deliver a public lecture on “The Demise of a Just City? The Urban Transformation of Amsterdam”\, as part of the project “Tbilisi as an urban intersection” funded by the Rustaveli National Science Foundation and the research seminar of the doctoral program in Anthropology\, on December 14\, at 19:00. \nA brief overview of the topic \nThe city of Amsterdam has long been known as “the just city” and is characterized in academic circles as an egalitarian\, diverse and tolerant city. However\, over time\, Amsterdam emerged as an international attraction – an economically unequal and politically tense space with gentrified regions. \nCeren Sezer will talk about the processes of urban transformation in Amsterdam and their impact on the cultural landscape of immigrant neighborhoods. Specifically examines how conditions of immigrants are changing with overall transformation by discussing/analyzing examples of shops\, restaurants\, and religious sites. The speaker argues that changes in the conditions of immigrants raise issues related to democratic public spaces and urban justice. \nCity government\, professionals of urban design and urban planning should be informed and take these issues into account in city development policies and strategies. \nAbout the speaker \nCeren Sezer is a Research Associate at RWTH Aachen University\, Chair of Urban Design. She holds a PhD and an MSc in Urbanism from Delft University of Technology and a BArch in Architecture from Istanbul Technical University. Her research interest includes liveability and sustainability of public spaces\, urban form and social life of the public realm\, and spatial justice. She is the author of Visibility\, democratic public space and socially inclusive cities (2020) and co-editor of several special issues and books including\, Marketplaces as Urban Development Strategy\, Public Space and Urban Justice\, Spatial Justice in Urban Studies and Planning education (forthcoming)\, Marketplaces: movement\, representation and practices and The Design of the Public Realm – Emerging Theories and Practices (forthcoming). \nBefore academia\, Ceren practiced as an architect and urban designer in Turkey\, Cyprus and the Netherlands. In 2010\, she co-founded the working group Public Spaces and Urban Cultures under the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP). She coordinated the Group’s meetings and workshops in Helsinki\, Vienna\, Ankara\, Bucharest\, Istanbul\, Utrecht\, Glasgow\, Ljubljana\, Lisbon\, Beirut\, Nicosia and Amsterdam. Besides her academic work\, Ceren worked as an expert and curator for the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI)\, International Rotterdam Biennale of Architecture and Public Space Biennale in Roma. She has been invited speaker to the National University of Singapore\, ETH Future Cities Laboratory\, Cardiff University\, Luzern University Applied Science and Arts\, and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. \nWorking language: English \nTime: December 14\, 19:00 \nFormat: remote\, in Zoom format: https://bit.ly/3ULqtRp \nMeeting ID:  833 262 9803 \nAttendance is free. \n2022 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]
