The representatives of scientific\, educational and cultural institutions of Poland and other countries present their works and achievements at the Picnic. They illustrate the very stuff of science in ways accessible to visitors of various ages\, using hands-on experiments\, demonstrations and interactive exhibits. A wide range of research fields is presented at the Picnic\, including the natural and social sciences as well as humanities. \nIn spring of 2012\, Ilia State University plans to organize such event in Georgia\, with support of the Embassy of Poland in Georgia. DESCRIPTION:On November 30\, 12:00\, Georgia’s  Minister of Penitentiary\, Probation and Legal Assistance Khatuna Kalmakhelidze  will meet students of Ilia State University at G106 (Venue: G.Tsereteli str. 3). \nThe main sense and goals of the meeting are: \nMs. Kalmakhelidze will familiarize the audience with news\, ongoing projects and plans being implemented by the Ministry of Penitentiary\, Probation and Legal Assistance within the framework of the ten-point plan. \nThe 10-point Plan aims at creating new jobs\, reducing a rate of unemployment and providing economic development. For that reason\, the ministry will take care for people after being released from the prison to be educated\, employed and integrated into the labor market. For implementing the above-mentioned goals\, several education houses have been put in action. They have a possibility to learn some occupations and obtain crucial skills. In addition\, the rehabilitation and employment  related activities are actively being implemented. SUMMARY:Public lecture by Dr. Thomas L. Holzer
DESCRIPTION:Ilia State University Hall A 101 will host a public lecture on “How many catastrophic earthquakes and global earthquake fatalities will there be in the 21st century?” by Dr. Thomas L. Holzer. \nDr. Thomas L. Holzer is an engineering geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park\, California. He has a B.S.E. degree in geological engineering from Princeton University (1965) and a M.S. degree in hydrology (1966) and a Ph.D. degree in geology from Stanford University (1970). He is a certified engineering geologist in the State of California\, and a consulting professor at Stanford University in the Departments of Geological and Environmental Sciences and Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has broad experience with earthquake hazards as well as ground failure in general. He has participated in numerous post-earthquake investigations and chaired the committee that wrote The Plan to coordinate NEHRP post-earthquake investigations (2003). He has served as a consultant to the State of California during reviews of residential earthquake insurance rate applications based on earthquake loss models. He was the 1998 Richard H. Jahns Distinguished Lecturer and the 1995 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Hydrogeology Division of the Geological Society of America. \nMr. John R. Bass\, Ambassador of the United States of America to Georgia\, will attend the meeting. \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]
