SUMMARY:Public Lecture by Dr. Stefan Meister: “Contested Leadership - How Russia fails to integrate post-Soviet countries”
DESCRIPTION:On 12 November\, 18:00 Dr. Stefan Meister\, Head of the Heinrich Boell Foundation Tbilisi Office – South Caucasus Region will host a public lecture: Contested Leadership – How Russia fails to integrate post-Soviet countries. \nConsecutive Russian leaderships have attempted to project power and influence in its „near abroad“. From Moscow’s perspective\, all post-Soviet countries only have limited sovereignty. However\, Russia’s declining economic power and the interest of the ruling elites in the post-Soviet countries to consolidate sovereignty lead to different contestation strategies. The success of these strategies depends on the countries’ resources\, their geographic proximity to external players\, and on the bargaining abilities of their elites. The more Russia tries to dominate its post-Soviet neighbours\, the more it will push the countries further away. \nDr. Stefan Meister is the head of the Heinrich Boell Foundation Tbilisi Office – South Caucasus Region since July 2019. \nFrom January 2017 until March 2019 Dr. Stefan Meister was Head of the Robert Bosch Center for Central and Eastern Europe\, Russia and Central Asia at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP). Previously\, he worked as the head of the program for Eastern Europe\, Russia and Central Asia at the DGAP and as a senior policy fellow in the Wider Europe Team at the European Council on Foreign Relations. In the term 2015/16 Meister was visiting fellow at the Transatlantic Academy in Washington D.C. writing on Russian disinformation and propaganda. He has served several times as an election observer for the OSCE in post-Soviet countries. Meister studied International Relations and East European History in Jena\, Leipzig and Nizhni Novgorod. He holds a PhD from Jena University with a thesis on the transformation of the Russian higher education and research system. His areas of research include Russian domestic\, foreign\, security and energy policy; EU-Russia relations; German-Russian relations\, Eastern Partnership and post-Soviet conflicts particularly in the South Caucasus. He published as a co-author the books “The Eastern Question” (2016)\, “The Eastern Voices” (2017) and “The Russia File” (2018) all at Brookings press. In 2019 he co-authored “Geo-politics and security. A new strategy for the South Caucasus” (2019). \nLanguage: English \nTime: 12 November 2019\, 18:00 \nVenue: Book House “Ligamus (32 Chavchavadze Avenue)\, Ilia State University \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

At a later stage it freed itself from these constraints in order to get interested\, rather\, in circulation and transfer of forms and ideas across the national and linguistic borders. It is a transnational perspective which can progress by adopting a post-transnational intention supported by a new methodology. \nThe concept of ‘literary space’\, inspired by the deleuzian idea of deterritorialisation and other works in literary theory\, stands out among the conceptual instruments of this renewal. A literary space\, mapped at the intersection of geography and history\, hosts a plethora of literatures and languages\, definable on both regional and national level\, and inviting approaches designed to indicate sharing of themes\, discourses and forms. The examples of this are given by the Carribean\, the Mediterranean and the Balkans\, the first two of which have already benefitted from relevant research. \nThe Black Sea\, and its six littoral states (Georgia\, Turkey\, Bulgaria\, Romania\, Ukraine\, Russia)\, its important port cities\, its littoral settlements\, its multicultural richness and its history going back to Antiquity\, offer in an exemplary way the possibility to be studied in this perspective. \nThe Black Sea as literary and cultural space supposes an inductive-deductive research: an object is set within a frame(work) in order to be observed during a process which comes to modify the frame(work). The object ‘Black Sea’ is constructed as a literary and cultural space and in turn helps to define the concept. This concept\, actually\, can be approached from three \nperspectives. The first one considers the concept as a milieu hosting in coexistence different literatures as well as different cultures; the second treats the concept as an interactive space entangling literatures in a way similar to the approaches of Pascale Casanova or Emily Apter; the last accepts the concept as matrix of the imaginary\, relying on the géocritique of Bertrand Westphal and the literary geography of Sheila Hones. Combining the perspectives could support the hypothesis of Black Sea as civilisation\, not in the classical sense of collective system of values interrelated hierarchically but in the sense of world-system (Wallerstein) held within the frame of the global world-system; and could offer the possibility of tracing manifestations of such civilisation in literary works. A literary and cultural space implies fluctuation between materiality and ideality\, history and myth\, – which is sustained by the adopted interdisciplinary methodological prism. \nThis conference presents itself a second stage of a collective research aimed at studying the Black Sea as literary and cultural space. It is a continuation of the first conference “Black Sea as Literary and Cultural Space” (see the call at : https://codfreurcor.iliauni.edu.ge/wp- content/uploads/2018/04/Appel-communications-in-EN.pdf)\, held in Tbilisi on 25-27 October 2018\, organised by Ilia State University upon the initiative of Mr. Alexis Nuselovici\, Professor at Aix-Marseille University. \nThe focus chosen for this second conference is “Peoples and Communities” and we hope that the paper proposals will address the following subjects: \nI. The image of Black Sea in the cultural and literary construction of national identities \n– Questions of identity \n– Use of heritage\, memory\, beliefs and religions \n– Phenomena of interculturality \n– Linguistic contacts\, circulation of languages\, translation \n– Folklore \nII. SUMMARY:Endogenous stem cells and Induced pluripotent stem cells in research and therapy : Current challenges and future prospects
DESCRIPTION:Endogenous stem cells and Induced pluripotent stem cells in research and therapy : Current challenges and future  prospects \nShibashish Giri \nApplied Stem Cell Biology and Cell Technology\, Biomedical and Biotechnological Center\, University of Leipzig. Germany. \nDepartment of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery\, University Hospital Rechts der Isar\, Technische Universität München\, Munich\, Germany. \nAbstract : \nActivation of endogenous stem cells is more powerful and superior than allogenic/ autologous stem cell translation in term for organ regeneration.  Naturally\, local endogenous stem cellactively contributes the regeneration of damaged cells/tissues/organs that represents a promising and successful platform in regenerative medicine. In principle\, our local endogenous stem cells know much better how to regenerate the organ. Every organ has their own local endogenous stem cells\, generally silent mode but active upon demand for organ regeneration. Identification and characterization of local endogenous stem cells and their activation for organ regeneration is a big challenge in stem cell research and therapy. Identification endogenous stem cells in various human organs such as skin\, heart\, brain\, liver and kidney and characterized their regeneration potential in in vitro models\, in vivo non-human model as well as human clinical setting is the main theme of our research and therapy. Like our immune system\, endogenous stem cell system has also significant role for organ regeneration. Current modern life style hampers rapidly the regenerative  potential of our endogenous stem cells system. Various cases studies have been conducted for organ regeneration by changing healthy daily life styles. Taken all together\, important role of endogenous stem cell is the central focus here. It is necessary to take good care of endogens stem cells system of our body and keep healthy daily life style to prevent from organ degeneration diseases as well as not to welcome the diseases. \n\n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:“International Science Summer School in Film Studies”
DESCRIPTION:“International Science Summer School in Film Studies” is a project co-funded by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia and Ilia State University. The event will be held in Kazbegi\, during 24-31 July 2019. \nIn Georgia\, in its cultural and artistic community\, it has been a debate decade now that the National Cinema is not in a state of affluence. In this case\, generally\, they mean the quality of films produced in Georgia and the main criticism comes for the filmmakers; but we think that we have to find problems in film criticism and theory too. The purpose of our project is to discuss the current problems of this case in a wider context and ask specific questions: what it is film theory? What level of teaching do we have in our academies? Moreover\, what are the major challenges in this field nowadays? \nThe organizer of the seasonal school is Ilia State University. The school consists of as the academic personal of Ilia State University\, also international researchers and film critics. The aim of the project is to involve students from different level\, educational background and universities of Georgia. \nWe believe the project is unprecedented in Georgia – so many people with different ranks\, experience and education\, will have a common topic and focus of analysis – cinema and film studies. We hope the project will be beneficial as for young researchers interested in cinema\, also for filmakers in Georgia too. \nThe members of the organizers are Nino Mkheidze\, Alexander Gabelia and Giorgi Gabelia. The school has three Georgian (Marine Chitashvili\, Teo Khatiashvili\, Diana Maghlakelidze) and two foreign (Arman Fatic\, Giovanni Vimercati) lecturers. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:Cultural Consequences of University Reform in Georgia. Building a Resilient Society
DESCRIPTION:This workshop at Ilia State University is organized with the support of University of Kent\, UK. It will bring together scholars from the humanities and social sciences\, from Georgian and European Universities: Ilia State University\, Tbilisi\, Georgia; University of Kent\, UK; Ruhr University Bochum\, Germany; Georgian University\, Tbilisi\, Georgia. \nIn May 2005\, Georgia joined the European Higher Education Area and received the state support\, as well as the support of European and American donor organizations for reforming its university system. In the wake of those quantifiable and documented reforms\, as well as ongoing process of development\, this workshop asks how we can evaluate their general societal and cultural effects in creating a resilient and progressive nation\, committed to fairness and equality. These general effects go beyond the university structures and are harder to evaluate. This workshop will ask what work\, in the disciplines of humanities and social sciences\, could be undertaken to assess the nature and durability of the effects of the reforms in the general society\, and also asks what the continuing and future role of higher education might be in further advancing Georgia as a progressive and resilient nation. \nAlthough social research or policy analysis are widely used in the analysis of education worldwide\, this project will take a different approach\, documenting and analysing the direct and indirect effects of higher education in a social or socio-cultural perspective. \nWe will ask how far and in what ways the newly accessible and inclusive higher education system has and will contribute to the improvement of civil society more generally. \nThe workshop will contribute to the vision of the role of the higher education sector in developing the culture required to promote and sustain a resilient society based on fairness and equality. We will ask how far and in what ways the newly accessible and inclusive higher education system has and will contribute to the improvement of civil society more generally. The premise is that the value of economic and structural reforms\, to be purposeful and sustainable\, should take root in a resilient civil society\, and we seek to establish what the role of cultural experts can be in analysing and contributing to social change. \n\n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]
