SUMMARY:Biological invasion in aquatic environment
DESCRIPTION:Description of the topic \nGlobalization of the world brings many benefits\, but it is also a source of many problems. The transport of plants and animals\, whether intended or unintended\, involves the risk of biological invasions. Non-native species in places of their introduction may cause threat to biodiversity\, but also may have negative impact on agriculture as well as on aquaculture. Professor Kalous speech will focused on the risk of biological invasion in the aquatic environment with presentations of examples from Czechia. \nDescription of the presenter \nLukáš Kalous is an Associate Professor at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague and the member of the board of European Ichthyological Society. He teaches subjects like Aquaculture\, Fish systematics or Fisheries. His specialization are the risks associated with non-native species in the aquatic environment\, especially fish. He tries to examine research issues broadly including disciplines such as genetics\, ecology or socio-economics. For a long time he is involved in the study of successful invader\, fishes of the genus Carassius. \n  \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:Another Architecture - Exhibition and Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Exploring Tbilisi’s urban condition through the architectural project – three days of events\, discussions and an exhibition. \nThe Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts\, in collaboration with Ilia State University\, invite you to ‘Another Architecture’ – an exhibition of explorative and evolving architectural propositions for Tbilisi\, Georgia.\nThe selected projects present a broad range of typologies from housing to market places\, civic buildings to infrastructure\, but all through an emphasis on the political and social potential of architecture. \nThe projects engage with Tbilisi’s complex urban condition through a research focused\, iterative design methodology. With this in mind\, the work does not aim to present finalised architectural propositions\, but rather invite critique\, alteration and discussion. \nEXHIBITION OPEN 10:00 – 21:00 \nWednesday 3rd May – Friday 5th May \nEvents at ArtaArea Gallery\, open to all: \nWednesday 3rd\, 18:00 – 20:00 – ‘Designing Values for Urban Development’\nA workshop with Axis Developers on designing values within the real estate market of Tbilisi and on the art of negotiation within Georgian politics. Following a presentation by Axis on their approach to development in Georgia\, we will have a Q&A follows by several exhibition project presentations. \nThursday 4th\, 19:30 – ‘Date night with your career’\nHow do women gain presence\, independence and power in the work world?\nTalk hosted by Kendra Reid\, please find more information and guests speakers in the following facebook event:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/361253877602038/?notif_t=plan_user_joined&notif_id=1493285468335388 \nThursday 4th\, 19:30 – ‘Pickling in Samgori’\nWhat is the future of informal markets in the face of development?\nWorkshop on the possibility to (in)tegrate formal and informal economies through the act of making pickles.\nWorkshop hosted by Xander Roden\, guest speakers will include experts in urban design\, law and economics. \nFriday 5th\, 18:00 – ‘Architectural Agency’\nPanel discussion exploring the conditions for a civic architecture\, questioning the transience of the architectural project and challenging the agency of the architect. \nThe symposium seeks to provoke a critical discussion around various thematics introduced in the exhibition\, with an emphasis on architecture’s potential in enriching Tbilisi’s urban\, political and social contexts. The discussion will explore three thematics: \n1. Civic architecture\nConsidering the particular context of Tbilisi\, the aim is to examine the forces involved in shaping civic architecture\, explore how these can be negotiated with external pressures\, and investigate ways in which citizens can become more active in realising civic architecture.\n2. Transient architecture\nWith Tbilisi’s transient architecture as a point of departure\, the objective is to question the relationship between formality and informality in the city\, consider the mediation of the conflicting aspirations of the market\, state and citizens\, and explore the convergence of heritage and development.\n3. The agency of the architect\nThe intent is to consider the role and agency of the architect in Tbilisi\, explore how this role could be expanded and challenge the strategies put forward in the exhibition.  \nWe are pleased to introduce a multidisciplinary group of speakers for a panel discussion on Friday evening: \n\nLevan Asabashvili – Urban Reactor\nLevan Kalandarishvili – Tbilisi Forum for Architecture / Institute of Georgian Architects\nGiorgi Gabunia – Advisor for Sustainable Development\, Tbilisi City Hall\nDavit Asanidze – Land Use Master Planning\, Tbilisi City Hall\nAnna Gulisashvili – Urban Management and Development\, Tbilisi City Hall / Architectural Forum\nNatalia Nebieridze – CAMPUS studio / Real Laboratory for Future Urban Planners / Material Hunters\nProfessors from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Ilia State University.\n\nPlease join us for some wine after the panel discussion. \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:PUBLIC FILM SHOWING AND DISCUSSION: “9 March: Bloody Tbilisi”
DESCRIPTION:In early March 1956 thousands of people in Georgia took to the streets to protest Khrushchev’s “Secret Speech” and the beginning of “de-Stalinization”. \nThese were the first large-scale public protests in the USSR in nearly 30 years. On the night of March 9 the Soviet Army opened fire. \nThe March 1956 events in Georgia present a paradox: in a republic that suffered heavily under Stalin’s rule\, citizens protested in support of Stalin. The events presaged the later uprisings in Hungary in October 1956\, and became a watershed event in Georgian and Soviet history. \nA discussion of the March 1956 events will take place following a viewing of the short film “9 March: Bloody Tbilisi” (20 min) produced by the Archives Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. \nModerator: Timothy Blauvelt\, Ilia State University Associate Professor \nParticipants: \n\nLasha Bakradze\, Director of the State Museumof Georgian Literature and Ilia State University Professor\nOliver Reisner\, Ilia State University Professor\nDr. Vladimer Luarsabishvili\, Archives Administration\, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia\n\nLanguage: English \nMarch 9\, 2017 \n17:00 at Ilia State University\, Room A101 \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]
