DESCRIPTION:On October 18\, 16:00\, Ilia State University will host a presentation of the competition “My water is with me” by the Ltd Company “Clean Water”. \nVenue: Ilia State University building G\, room 106\, G. Tsereteli str. 2 \nThe project aims to provide students with opportunities to use the theoretical and practical knowledge and develop skills. \nThe competition is open to ISU bachelor and master level students (The students of ISU Business School are preferred). The amount of prize is 1500 USD. \nParticipants should group a team with minimum 3 (three) and maximum 5 (five) students. The idea of the topic should be original and basically free. It must highlight the brand “Binuli” and demonstrate the key difference between the filtered bottle water and tap water; why should families use the “Binuli” water in their houses. \nThe topic should be about 19 L capacity bottles and dispensers. \nParticipant teams should register till the October 21\, 2013. Each applicant must submit the following information: name\, surname\, and a copy of ID card\, student telephone number\, e-mail address\, faculty\, course\, and student document. This info should be sent to the e-mail address: marketing@binuli.ge; \nFor additional information\, please refer to the facebook page\, specially created for interested students. After receiving the concrete instruction\, students will be given a month for its implementation. \nThe awarding ceremony will be organized in December 2013\, a meeting place and time will be announced in advance. \nThe company has the right to use the topics that will not be awarded; if any of the topics do not meet the requirements mentioned\, we reserve the right not to draw prizes. \nIf there is a change in the team members\, we should be notified in advance; \nThe “Binuli” reserves the right to use fully or partially the idea of the winner ad scenario. \nA winner will be named by the competent jury\, including ISU lecturers and the “Clean Water” employees. \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:How to make Georgian democracy work?
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the visit to Georgia by Jerzy Pomianowski\, Executive Director of the European Endowment for Democracy\, Ilia University and the Delegation of the European Union welcomes you to a panel discussion about the conditions for democracy on 16 October 2013 at the Ilia University\, at 17:00 in  Room A 101. \nDuring the discussion the panelists will address issues like the following: \n\nLegitimate representation: how do political parties build on and manage personal loyalties\, collective interests and ideology?\nHow to balance majority rule versus minority rights: in a democracy the majority decides\, but what are the limits to its power over individuals and minorities?\nInstitutions and the common good: democracy works through process and compromise\, producing results that are ideal to no-one but acceptable to all. How are stable democratic institutions that serve the common good built?\n\nThe panel will discuss these and other questions\, looking at the situation in Georgia and comparing it with the experience of Poland – a country that\, like Georgia\, has transformed radically since the fall of communism\, and has managed social and political tensions by establishing strong democratic institutions. \nJerzy Pomianowski is the Executive Director of the European Endowment for Democracy. He has served in the Polish Ministry for Foreign Affairs as Deputy Foreign Minister and Director General with a focus on democratization and development. In his youth\, he was active in the democratic opposition against the Polish communist regime. \nOliver Reisner is a Doctor of Modern Georgian History\, Goettingen University. He coordinated a post-graduate Central Asia/Caucasus programme at Humboldt University; managed an EU-funded civic integration project for minority-populated regions of Georgia. Currently is a project manager at the EU Delegation to Georgia and continues his academic work. \nVazha Salamadze is a founding director of Civil Society Institute. Of his 26-year experience in public sector 18 years were dedicated to development of civil society and promoting enabling environment  for CSOs. He teaches policy analysis at several universities of  Georgia. \nTamar Tsopurashvili is an Associate Professor\, Acting Director of Savle Tsereteli Institute for Philosophy at Ilia State University. She studied and defended her PhD thesis at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany)\, participates actively in current public debates on democratization and human rights issues in Georgia\, is involved in civil activism. \nThe European Endowment for Democracy is a European initiative to advance and encourage deep and sustainable democracy in transition countries\, with a focus on the European Neighbourhood. DESCRIPTION:On October 12-19\, Ilia State University will host the international conference entitled “Environmental Change and Human Response during the Quaternary in the Mediterranean Region”… The conference is the first scientific meeting of the IGCP Project #610 that will be held under the auspices of UNESCO. \nISU organizes the conference in collaboration with Avalon Institute of Applied Science (Canada)\, Odessa State University\, International Association for Seas and Oceans and Istanbul Technical University. \nThe conference aims to revise the geological\, archaeological\, environmental and anthropological data with the purpose of determining the human response and adaptation to the environmental changes through the Quaternary period in the Mediterranean Sea “Corridor”. The information is extremely important for understanding of the ongoing environmental changes and evaluating the further development perspectives of the modern civilization. \nThe conference aims to deepen the geological\, archaeological and anthropological connections between the field scientists. More than 70 scientists from 15 countries are participating in the conference. The conference will be held in Georgia for the first time in the region. The upcoming activities will be organized in Azerbaijan\, Ukraine\, Turkey and be completed in Israel in 2017. DESCRIPTION:On October 5\, from 11:00 a.m. to 20:00 p.m.\, Ilia State University organizes the annual Science Picnic at Rike Park. The event will be held within the framework of the festival “Tbilisoba”. \nIliauni Science Picnic is the only open-air event in Georgia which aims to promote and popularize the science. It shows the achievements of modern science in a very cheerful way\, especially in the Natural Sciences. \nThe scientific groups will perform interesting experiments and interactive exhibitions in the specially placed tents. Professors\, teachers and students from different universities as well as the representatives of the public and private schools\, various local and international organizations and embassies will take part in the Picnic. \nIn frame of the Science Picnic\, ISU Faculty of Engineering will perform the student project “The Game of Robots”. SUMMARY:Summer School
DESCRIPTION:Ilia State University has been organizing the Summer School “South Caucasus – Culture\, Society and Politics” for five years. This year the Summer School will be opened on September 6 and 22 German and 6 Georgian students will participate. The summer school is organized with the support from The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)\, in the frames of the project “GoEast”. \nThe aim of the summer school is to help the understanding of the Caucasus\, as the phenomenon in the European academic space and with this to participate in the process of bringing closer European and Caucasian countries culturally and politically. \nGeorgian and German students will attend seminars and presentations during two weeks which will be led by Dr. Uwe Halbach (Fund for Science and Politics\, Berlin) and Dr. Florian Mühlfried (Friedrich-Schiller-University\, Jena). The participants of the summer school will meet Georgian experts in different spheres\, artists and politicians. \nSeminars and meetings will be held in Tbilisi. SUMMARY:The Seminar for Journalists at Ilia State University
DESCRIPTION:On August 16-18 the seminar “Media Coverage of Influenza and Natural Disasters” will be held. The seminar is organized by Ilia State University\, “International Broadcasting Bureau” and “Resource Centre for NGOs”. \nThe aim of the seminar is journalistic practice and use of new media means preparation of the reports about the emergency situations. The seminar will be led by Georgian and American experts. The training is designed for journalists\, editors\, journalism lecturers and trainers. \nThirty participants from Tbilisi and the regions: Kakheti\, Adjara\, Samegrelo\, Guria\, Inner Kartli\, and Imereti will attend the training. Furthermore\, the employees of the National Center of Disease Control and Public Health will attend the seminar. \nThe press attaché of United States of America Jeremy Richart will speak at the seminar on August 17. DESCRIPTION:Ilia State University Autism Centre has been hosting the Summer School for Autism already for three years. The summer school will be held from July 22 untill August 2. SUMMARY:From Sleep Sciences to Sleep Medicine
DESCRIPTION:On July 18\, 10:30 at Ilia State University room 196 (Building G\, G.Tsereteli 2) the open format summer school”From Sleep Science to Sleep Medicine” will open. The school is financed by the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) and Ilia State University. The scientific organizer of the school is Ilia State University associate professor Ima Gvilia. \nThe course “From Sleep Science to Sleep Medicine” aims at developing the fundamental and clinical directions in the research of sleep in Georgia and Caucasus Region. The training program includes the preparation of highly qualified young scientists and sleep science specialists working in the direction of fundamental\, clinical and applied research in our region. \nFurthermore\, during the summer school the urgent scientific hypothesis by the leading specialist working in the sphere sleep research\, the modern conceptions of research and latest interesting discoveries will be exchanged. \nAnother aim of the project is to popularize fundamental research of sleep as one of the important spheres in neuroscience and to identify the sleep disorder as the important problem of health care system.. \nInternational Brain Research Organization was established in 1961 and unites neuroscientists worldwide. SUMMARY:The Exhibition of Iliauni Architects
DESCRIPTION:Today at 17:00 Ilia State University School of Engineering Program of Architecture invites you to the final exhibition of the year. \nThe works by freshman\, sophomore and junior students will be presented. \nThe freshman will present the compositions done in two and three dimension and the projects of small architectural objects. The function of the proposed assignment is selected according to student’s desires and interests. \nFurthermore\, the copies of the works by famous architects (drawings and models composed in gypsum) and research material will be displayed and later the project for changing and developing of these projects. \nThe sophomore will present house projects for one family. The task of the students was to properly layout objects in the given territory\, proper planning and suitable form creation. They will also present the project of ten place hotel. \nThe junior students will display the plan of development of Ilia State University’s territory. \nProject Includes: \n\n\nResearch part which includes plan of the analysis of the territory – transport traffic scheme\, the layout of household trading and residential facilities near the territory\, the floors of surrounding buildings\, the connection with Vake Park;\nUrban planning problems;\nLandscape development / Activation of the territory;\nThe problems of sustainable development\n\n\nThe works of international workshop will be also displayed. This workshop was held in Germany\, Potsdam and was organized by the local architectural school. Along with student’s works you could also see the creations of famous architects. The architects from Georgia\, Korea\, America and Germany were participating in the workshop. Students created the developmental plan of Potsdam Agrarian University. \nAlso the winner projects of the architectural competition announced by the “Energy Efficiency Center Georgia” in the frames of the project “Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Projects for Georgian Communities” which is financed by BP Georgia and center’s other partners in the sphere of oil and gas will be presented.
