The project was developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories\, Labor\, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia\, taking into account the government’s priorities in this area. \nSignificant achievements as a result of the project: \n\nFamily physicians and healthcare professionals across Georgia have been trained to detect the risk of autism spectrum at an early stage.\nFive regions of Georgia are considered the “gold standard” of diagnosis needed to detect the autism spectrum. The so-called ADOS tool was delivered and trained specialists were trained in its use.\nABA specialists have been trained in using professional child assessment tools (ABLLS-R and EFL)\, which are essential for the full implementation of ABA therapy.\nFifteen specialists were funded who took the international certification course required to qualify as Behavior Therapy supervisors.\nIn parallel with the ABA\, two alternative approaches to autism intervention – the Denver Early Intervention Model and the SCERTS (Social Communication\, Emotional Regulation\, Transactional Support) model were introduced\, trained specialists.\nThe inclusive education model was presented to three pilot kindergartens of Georgia\, special teachers and kindergarten educators were trained.\nAn autism program evaluation model was presented to various municipalities. Consequently\, some of them have allocated the required budget for this program\, while others have increased the number of hours required for both the beneficiaries involved in the program and the therapy.\nIn 2018\, the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories\, Health\, Labor and Social Affairs approved the National Protocol on Autism Detection\, Diagnosis and Management. \nIn 2020\, the Ministry of Health approved the “Minimum Standards for Services for People with Autism.”\nThe Association of Behavior Analysts has developed and submitted to Parliament a legislative initiative that\, if approved\, would lead to the regulation of the activities of Behavior Analysts.\n\n2021\n  \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:2022 Hybrid Conference: From Research to Practice
DESCRIPTION:What can we do to help ensure that sound pedagogical research informs our teaching? What can we do to foster the flow of information in both directions—from classroom practice back to formulating new research questions and generating data to test what we think we “know”? And what directions should new research take to best serve our students and teaching staff in their day-to-day work? In other words\, how can 21st-century research continue to improve teaching and learning? \nThese questions underlie the theme of the 2022 IUT conference: “From Research to Practice.” \nIn many universities today there is still a gap between the two. Traditional forms of teaching\, including the much-maligned lecture\, have demonstrated remarkable resiliency\, while innovative practices\, such as flipped classrooms and extended student discussions\, have often faced resistance from both teachers and students. These and other challenges have increased with the pandemic\, which has transformed classroom teaching in unpredictable and often negative ways. \nOver three days we will explore the links between research and teaching in the hopes of providing some answers to the questions posed above. Given the continuing uncertainties of the COVID pandemic\, however\, the format of IUT 2022 remains fluid. Our strong hope is to meet in person in Tbilisi\, the capital of Georgia\, where the Ilia State University is ready and eager to host our 2022 meeting. We recognize that COVID-related travel policies remain fluid and inconsistent across regions. Therefore we remain flexible in our choice of format. If emergent conditions prevent an in-person conference\, we will return to the live\, 72-hour format successfully used in 2020 and 2021. If we are able to gather in Tbilisi\, we will adopt a hybrid format\, which will allow remote participation from delegates who are unable to journey to Georgia. \nWhatever the final format—hybrid or remote—we hope that you will join us in July\, 2022 for what promises to be another inspiring and useful IUT global conference. \nSubmit Proposal Here \n2021 \n  \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:Scientific-Reporting Conference: Memory Places and the Symbolic Environment of Georgian National Identity
DESCRIPTION:On November 5\, at 18:00 p.m. \, Ilia State University will host an online scientific-reporting conference “Places of Memory and the Symbolic Environment of Georgian National Identity“. \nThe conference will present the research results of the scientific project for fundamental researches conducted within the framework of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia State Science Grant (N FR17_624). \nThe title of the project is “Georgian National Identity and ’’Places of Memory “: Dominant and Alternative Perspectives on the Construction of the Past”. \nThe representatives of various disciplines of humanities and social sciences (history\, political science\, sociology\, cultural studies\, comparative literature)\, Ilia State University (leading organization) and professors and young researchers of Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (co-participant organization) worked on this scientific project during 2018-2021. \nBased on the research\, a special issue of the international peer-reviewed journal Caucasus Survey was published this year – Rethinking Memory Sites and Symbolic Realms of Georgian National Identity. Also\, a Georgian language collection of the same works is being prepared for publication at Ilia State University Publishing House. \nEach work included in the special issue and collection is placed in a common interdisciplinary framework and complements each other. The authors consider the memory places discussed by them as integral and interconnected structural elements of the Georgian complex symbolic environment. Consequently\, there are many points of contact and intersection between separate works in terms of research issues\, concepts and theoretical approaches\, which presented an interesting picture of the relationship between Georgian historical knowledge\, collective memory and national identity. \nThe conference program is available at: https://bit.ly/3nUDY2B \nThe meeting will be held remotely\, in an online format\, through the program Zoom and you can attend it at the address: https://bit.ly/3BA4Tp8 \nAlso\, live broadcast will be provided on the official Facebook page of Ilia State University\, at the address: https:www.facebook.com/Iliauni \nAbout Researches \nThe research highlights the turning points of the emergence and dynamics of modern Georgian nationalism from the second half of the 19th century to the present day. The genealogical perspective allows us to observe the stages of formation of the collective memory of the Georgian society\, in the context of different political conjunctures: \n\nDuring the period of Russian Imperial rule in Georgia\, at the same time during the Georgian nationalism (from the second half of the 19th century);\nIn the short period of construction of the First Republic\, the Nation State ( 1918-1921);\nIn the area of radical and often traumatic transformations of the Soviet period (1921-1991) and finally\,\nIn the post-Soviet era\, when a comprehensive process of collective memory\, another\, fundamental reconfiguration began.\n\nSpecifically\, the authors and speakers focused on the most important places of the memory that contribute to the historical consciousness and collective memory of the Georgian society\, including: Ilia Chavchavadze as a symbolic figure and place of memory; \n\nMtatsminda Pantheon of Georgian writers and public figures;\nStalin monuments as places of conflicting memory;\nSymbolic area of Tbilisi as a Georgian national identity and cultural memory;\nNarrative between David IV the builder and battle of Didgori\, as a source of historical ideas about the territorial integrity of Georgia;\nConstruction of the national identity and memory places for Georgian Migrants in the United States and Germany.\n\nTime: November 5\, 18:00 – 20:30 p.m. \nFormat: Remote\, Zoom platform at https://bit.ly/3BA4Tp8 \n2021 \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:Remaking Muslim Society by Remaking its Women: Azerbaijani Case of Muslim Women’s Reformation\, 1890 – 1920
DESCRIPTION:Despite a growing body of literature on societal reorganization in the Middle East and in the former Soviet Islamic territories\, the history of Azerbaijani cultural reformation remains understudied. In particular\, the subjects of Muslim women’s education\, establishment of women’s benevolent societies and women’s journals in old-Imperial Azerbaijan has not been the subject of any existing historical accounts. This gap in the historiography has led to a popular misconception that the reformation of Muslim women’s societal position only started in the Soviet period. This lecture aspires to fill a gap in the limited knowledge on ideas about cultural modernization\, Azeri women\, and their transformation.\nIn Azerbaijan\, the late-Imperial concepts about womanhood and motherhood\, envisaging women as unveiled\, modern\, and educated\, were linked with motherhood and the fate of the imagined progressive nation\, millat. Azerbaijani men of letters crafted an image of a new woman: the gentle wife and the scientific mother who could give birth and raise only future state leaders\, lawyers\, doctors\, scientists\, and lawful citizens\, and nothing less. That conception of new types of mothers as the foundation of the proposed millat\, nevertheless\, brought new social norms for gendered relationships. In the press\, Azerbaijani intellectuals and politicians voiced their arguments for granting Muslim women greater independence from conventional hierarchies within family and society. In particular\, the modern public education program\, the introduction of the first public schools and female teacher training centre\, gave rise to the new cohort of independent and modern educated female intellectuals\, politicians\, and civil servants. This new generation of Muslim women continued the policies for female emancipation during the period of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic\, 1918 – 1920\, and after the sovietization of Azerbaijan in 1920. \nspeaker: Yelena Abdullayeva  \nDate: 17:00 June 22\, 2021 \nLanguages: Georgian\, English \nFormat: Online\, Facebook Live \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:Online Launch of the Georgian Translation
DESCRIPTION:On 10 June\, 2021\, the Heinrich Boell Foundation\, Ilia State University and Poezia Press will hold an online launch of the Georgian translation of “Reconstruction of Nations: Poland\, Ukraine\, Lithuania\, Belarus” by Timothy Snyder. \nAbout the Publication \n“Reconstruction of Nations” tells the story of how history has influenced the formation of modern Poland\, Lithuania\, Ukraine and Belarus. What path did they take? What decisions were made and how? Why did they fight with each other and with others? How did they reconcile? How did they foresee the future? These are important questions for the formation of all modern nation-states\, and their fate and future depend largely on what answers are given. \nIt is especially important for Georgia to view the history of our friendly nations from this angle. What conclusions and lessons should our country draw? \nAgenda \n_____________________________________________________________________________________________ \nModerator: Prof. Alexander Mikaberidze \nGreetings: \n\nProf. Giga Zedania\, Rector of the Ilia University\nDr. Stefan Meister\, Head of Office\, Heinrich Boell Foundation\, South Caucasus\nMs. Nato Alhazishvili\, Publisher\n\nKey-note speaker: Prof. Timothy Snyder\, author of the book \nThe speakers will present key arguments of the book and a history of receptions and will discuss their relevance for Georgia and smaller post-Soviet states. \nThemes to be discussed by the speakers: \n\nPoland’s “Eastern Policy” enabled it not only to achieve peace with its neighbors\, but also facilitated its own European aspirations. What connects this policy of nation-building and rebirth of the Polish nation of the 1990s to the Eastern Partnership (EaP) initiated by Poland and Sweden? How Poland saw its role in the EU at the time and how it is today? How was it possible that memories of ‘glorious past’ did not prevent the path of the future? What lessons can Georgia’s political class draw from this?– H.E. Mr. Mariusz Maszkiewicz\, Ambassador of Poland to Georgia.\nLithuania has been able to navigate the post-independence choppy waters to emerge as a member of the EU and NATO. While the international situation was quite different then\, the process of nation-building by a small country in a difficult neighborhood contains lessons that are still relevant today. What enables Lithuania to ‘manage’ its memory politics to maintain peaceful development? How do historians remain historians? How can Georgia’s European aspirations be viewed in the context of nation-building and internal conflicts? – Prof. Violeta Davoliute\, Vilnius University.\nGeorgia is one of the nations ‘divided by its past’ – diverging memories of what happened in the last 100 years still feed the conflicts inside the recognized borders of Georgia. What are the roles of historians and politicians in this process? Is it possible to “leave history to historians” as Poles and their neighbors were able to do and move on politically? What are the key patterns and obstacles of Georgia’s post-Soviet nation-building? What obstacles do the internal conflicts create for Georgia’s European aspirations? –Mr. Giorgi Kandelaki (a Georgian politician\, former MP).\n South Caucasus as a region\, also suffers from the consequences of “memory politics”. How did the process of nation-building and strengthened nationalism reinforce each other? How can nations escape this vicious circle? What different approach is needed to rethink memory politics and its instrumentalization? What lessons does “The Reconstruction of Nations” contain for the countries of South Caucasus? Is there a particular role for Georgia to play? – Dr. Beka Kobakhidze\, Associate Professor\, Ilia State University.\n\nTime: 10 June 2021\, 19:00 \nFormat: Online\, Zoom\, and Facebook Live \nLanguages: Georgian\, English \nMeeting link: https://bit.ly/3ciZRUh \nMeeting ID: 858 7559 5022 \nPasscode: 263105 \n2021 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:Caucasus Mountain Forum 2022
DESCRIPTION:Designed to be a meeting place for scientists\, policymakers\, and practitioners from the Caucasus region and beyond\, CMF3 follows in the footsteps of CMF1 (2016) and CMF2 (2019) as a crucial opportunity for constructive interaction between scientists\, governmental experts\, and practitioners; with debate on opportunities and challenges and contributions to the improved coordination of sustainable development in the Caucasus region. \nThe theme of CMF3 “Transdisciplinarity for Sustainable Tourism Development: Role of Caucasus Scientists” will be perspectives and challenges of tourism development in the region\, which was identified as one of the hottest issues by the Caucasus Regional Research Agenda (C-RRA) adopted by CMF2 in Ankara in 2019. In particular\, the presentations and discussions of CMF2 determined that tourism\, even with both positive and negative impacts on nature\, local communities\, and economies\, plays the most important role in the Caucasus mountain regions’ socio-economic promotion. \nThe tourism sector constituted from 3 to 15 percent of the GDP of the Caucasus Ecoregion countries in 2019. Tourism development is interlinked with a number of other economic sectors such as agriculture\, transport\, infrastructure\, construction\, energy\, and\, in general\, socio-economic development and planning. The tourism sector also embraces different aspects of historical heritage and cultural diversity\, environmental and ecosystem protection\, climate change\, and water management. \nCMF3 will be held from 19 to 21 April 2022 and will be hosted by Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University\, Georgia. \nCMF3 will offer a combination of plenary sessions open to the public\, research sessions\, workshops\, and poster sessions. The organisers invite participants to choose among the following types of contributions: \n\nAbstracts for oral presentation in research sessions (max 300 words + 5 keywords). Research sessions provide academic researchers a chance to present and discuss their latest scientific findings. Researchers from non-academic settings (NGOs\, government\, private sector) are also invited.\nAbstracts for a practical example in a workshop (max. 300 words). The purpose of the workshops is to stimulate discussion and exchange between practitioners and scientists. Practical examples in policy advocacy; scientific networking; leveraging spatial data education for sustainable development\, natural hazards\, and disaster risk reduction are expected. As a consequence\, workshop presentations are expected to be short\, focusing on practical insights from development projects\, policy initiatives\, or teaching practice.\nAbstracts for a poster presentation (max. 200 words). Posters will be displayed in a prominent area. Poster presenters will attend two dedicated poster sessions. The size of the posters should not exceed A0 format (84 cm x 119 cm).
