SUMMARY:Hippotherapy
DESCRIPTION:On December 6\, 17:00\, ISU Bookstore “Ligamus” will host a presentation on the evaluation of the hippotherapy program designed for children of autism spectrum disorders.  15 volunteer students will be awarded the certificates. The presentation will be attended by the representatives of Ilia State University\, the Ministries of Education and Healthcare\, the Open Society Georgia Foundation as well as the children of autism spectrum disorders and their parents. \nVenue: Chavchavadze Ave. 32 \nAutism is known as a developmental disability in the 21st century. It affects the normal brain function\, development of a child’s verbal communication and social interaction skills. In case of Autism\, public communication can be regarded as one of the most important challenges. Precisely\, the utilization of hippotherapy and contact with animals (playing with horses\, and etc.) can be a great treatment intervention for autistic children. \nAccording to the world experience\, hippotherapy (equine therapy) is considered as the best approved method of the rehabilitation of children with autism spectrum disorders. \nWithin the framework of the project “My Colorful World”\, Ilia State University organized the hippotherapy camp for 3-10 years old children of ISU Autism Center.  Also\, the children (15 beneficiaries) consuming the services offered by ISU Autism Center took part in the project. \nThe hippotherapy program was carried out in the small town Tsodoreti\, at the horse stable territory of ISU. The program covered 10 working days\, from 11:00 to 16:00.  The Psychotherapists\, high qualified trainers and specialists\, volunteer students and handlers were involved in this project. \nThe project aims to provide the integration of autistic children into the society by utilizing the horse camps. \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

DESCRIPTION:On November 20\, 16:00\, the representatives of the program “Teach and Learn with Georgia” will organize the meeting with students. \nVenue: Ilia State University Building A\, room 101; \nThe program “Teach and Learn with Georgia” is being implemented since 2010 and carried out by the Ministry of Education and Science LEPL\, the National Center for Teacher Professional Development. Since 2012\, the new component has been added to the program – a selection of local volunteers and their employment as English language teachers in public schools of the regions of Georgia. \nThe project aims to help the schools of the highland villages of Georgia\, to increase the level of English language teaching\, to introduce new teaching methods and materials\, to employ young teachers and popularize the profession. Within the framework of the project\, the citizens of Georgia\, who are fluent in English and have a degree of bachelor\, will be sent to different regions of Georgia as English language teachers. In case of one year successful cooperation\, their two year Master studies will be financed. \n\nIndividuals having a bachelor degree\, after minimum one year participation and successfully completion of the master exams\, will get the grant for their MA studies;\nAll the selected volunteer teachers will receive a monthly scholarships of 500 GEL;\nVolunteers will live with local families and work at public schools of the region during one academic year as a minimum;\nBefore the distribution in schools\, volunteer teachers will attend the intensive trainings in the Basics of Education and English Language Teaching Methodology.\n\nThe selection procedures: \n\nWritten test;\nInterview;\nTraining.\n\n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

DESCRIPTION:Modern Georgian Theatre in the Transitional Economic Conditions \nA Unique Guide on the Georgian Regional Theatres in 2010-2012 \nOn November 21\, 18:00\, ISU Bookstore “Ligamus” (Chavchavadze Ave. 32) will host the presentation of the research and book titled “Modern Georgian Theatre in the Transitional Economic Conditions” (Analytics\, Pragmatics and Statistics).  The theatre managers\, directors\, actors and researchers will be invited to the presentation. \nThe book highlights the work of 13 regional theatres in 2010-2012. It talks about the triumph\, achievements\, ongoing creative processes and hindering factors taking place in the Georgian theatre. The publication covers the detailed information on the technical possibilities and stage features of the theatres. \nThe book illustrates the results of the sociological survey which defines the ratings of actors and directors (affection of audience\, popularity and interest). \nThe five most successful and effective theatres as well as outstanding actors and directors will be named during the presentation. The book authors are the researchers of ISU Modern Georgian Theatre Research Center: Theatre Critics Lasha Chkhartishvili and Culture Manager Elene Babakishvili. \nThe publication was prepared by ISU Modern Georgian Theatre Research Center in cooperation with the Georgian Section of International Association of Theatre Critics\, with financial support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation under the Research Grants for Young Scholars Program. \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

She studied the playing on flute in Bern and later in Paris under the guidance of outstanding flute player Rene Le Roy. Magdalena Kuhn worked as a flute teacher in Bern and Arnhem academies. During many years\, she was a member of the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra. She has recorded several CD-ROM and programs with a famous guitarist Julian Coco for radio and TV outlets. She participated in various concerts in different countries around the world. \nDuring last ten years\, Magdalena Kuhn has been systematically visiting Georgia to conduct masterclasses\, by the invitation of Professor Nino Mamradze. In 2012\, she initiated the first successful flute festival in our country. \nMagdalena Kuhn received a PhD degree at the University of Leiden. Her thesis was dedicated to the Coptic liturgical melody. Magdalena Kuhn delivers lectures about the Coptic music in the countries around the world. Panel presentations will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience. \nAndrea Bubula teaches Economic Analysis for International Affairs in Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs. His expertise is in applied open-economy macroeconomics and finance. His research interests include international exchange rate regimes and interest rate differentials in developing countries. He has worked at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund\, and was a Fellow of International Affairs at Yale University. In 2008 he received the Columbia University Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching. Dr. Bubula earned his PhD in economics from Columbia University\, and holds a ‘Laurea’ and ‘Dottorato di Ricerca’ from Universita’ di Roma\, La Sapienza. \nProfessor Bubula is in Tbilisi as a part of the EWMI G-PAC Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) program\, which is established in cooperation with Ilia State University and Columbia University. The lecturer will demonstrate some tips how to adapt any natural science issue with using of both research and constructivist approaches. \nDr. MacDonald is an associate professor and a head of the Department\, a Fulbright scholar from the University of Detroit Mercy (Michigan). Before the University\, Dr. MacDonald worked in the field of education as a teacher and school master\, taught the methodology of natural science and practical research in Michigan State University. Also\, he delivered online lectures designed for primary and secondary schoolchildren at Michigan Virtual University (online school in Michigan). \nDr. MacDonald devotes great attention to trainees or experienced teachers actively striving for professional growth. During his career\, he was a supervisor for newcomers. In April 2005\, MacDonald was named as the best practitioner teacher by the Michigan University. In 2008\, He became the best online teacher. MacDonald teaches and delivers lectures in England\, Japan\, China\, Brazil\, and now in Georgia. DESCRIPTION:On October 18\, 16:00\, Ilia State University will host a presentation of the competition “My water is with me” by the Ltd Company “Clean Water”. \nVenue: Ilia State University building G\, room 106\, G. Tsereteli str. 2 \nThe project aims to provide students with opportunities to use the theoretical and practical knowledge and develop skills. \nThe competition is open to ISU bachelor and master level students (The students of ISU Business School are preferred). The amount of prize is 1500 USD. \nParticipants should group a team with minimum 3 (three) and maximum 5 (five) students. The idea of the topic should be original and basically free. It must highlight the brand “Binuli” and demonstrate the key difference between the filtered bottle water and tap water; why should families use the “Binuli” water in their houses. \nThe topic should be about 19 L capacity bottles and dispensers. \nParticipant teams should register till the October 21\, 2013. Each applicant must submit the following information: name\, surname\, and a copy of ID card\, student telephone number\, e-mail address\, faculty\, course\, and student document. This info should be sent to the e-mail address: marketing@binuli.ge; \nFor additional information\, please refer to the facebook page\, specially created for interested students. SUMMARY:How to make Georgian democracy work?
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the visit to Georgia by Jerzy Pomianowski\, Executive Director of the European Endowment for Democracy\, Ilia University and the Delegation of the European Union welcomes you to a panel discussion about the conditions for democracy on 16 October 2013 at the Ilia University\, at 17:00 in  Room A 101. \nDuring the discussion the panelists will address issues like the following: \n\nLegitimate representation: how do political parties build on and manage personal loyalties\, collective interests and ideology?\nHow to balance majority rule versus minority rights: in a democracy the majority decides\, but what are the limits to its power over individuals and minorities?\nInstitutions and the common good: democracy works through process and compromise\, producing results that are ideal to no-one but acceptable to all. How are stable democratic institutions that serve the common good built?\n\nThe panel will discuss these and other questions\, looking at the situation in Georgia and comparing it with the experience of Poland – a country that\, like Georgia\, has transformed radically since the fall of communism\, and has managed social and political tensions by establishing strong democratic institutions. \nJerzy Pomianowski is the Executive Director of the European Endowment for Democracy. He has served in the Polish Ministry for Foreign Affairs as Deputy Foreign Minister and Director General with a focus on democratization and development. In his youth\, he was active in the democratic opposition against the Polish communist regime. \nOliver Reisner is a Doctor of Modern Georgian History\, Goettingen University. He coordinated a post-graduate Central Asia/Caucasus programme at Humboldt University; managed an EU-funded civic integration project for minority-populated regions of Georgia. Currently is a project manager at the EU Delegation to Georgia and continues his academic work. \nVazha Salamadze is a founding director of Civil Society Institute. Of his 26-year experience in public sector 18 years were dedicated to development of civil society and promoting enabling environment  for CSOs. He teaches policy analysis at several universities of  Georgia. \nTamar Tsopurashvili is an Associate Professor\, Acting Director of Savle Tsereteli Institute for Philosophy at Ilia State University. She studied and defended her PhD thesis at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany)\, participates actively in current public debates on democratization and human rights issues in Georgia\, is involved in civil activism. \nThe European Endowment for Democracy is a European initiative to advance and encourage deep and sustainable democracy in transition countries\, with a focus on the European Neighbourhood. The EED receives requests for support from civil society organisations\, movements and individual activists regardless of their size or formal status. \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

DESCRIPTION:On October 12-19\, Ilia State University will host the international conference entitled “Environmental Change and Human Response during the Quaternary in the Mediterranean Region”… The conference is the first scientific meeting of the IGCP Project #610 that will be held under the auspices of UNESCO. \nISU organizes the conference in collaboration with Avalon Institute of Applied Science (Canada)\, Odessa State University\, International Association for Seas and Oceans and Istanbul Technical University. \nThe conference aims to revise the geological\, archaeological\, environmental and anthropological data with the purpose of determining the human response and adaptation to the environmental changes through the Quaternary period in the Mediterranean Sea “Corridor”. The information is extremely important for understanding of the ongoing environmental changes and evaluating the further development perspectives of the modern civilization. \nThe conference aims to deepen the geological\, archaeological and anthropological connections between the field scientists. More than 70 scientists from 15 countries are participating in the conference. The conference will be held in Georgia for the first time in the region. The upcoming activities will be organized in Azerbaijan\, Ukraine\, Turkey and be completed in Israel in 2017. The main sessions of the conference will be held at Ilia State University (Tbilisi) on October 13-15\, 2013.  The visiting scientific – practical seminars with the participation of the speakers of the conference will be held in the different regions of Georgia. \nVenue: Ilia State University\, Building G\, G.
