SUMMARY:IOSEB CHAUCHIDZE HOLDS PUBLIC LECTURE AGAINST REPRESSIVE HYPOTHESIS: FOUCAULT AND PSYCHOANALYSIS
DESCRIPTION:On May 6\, at 19:00\, in room A101 of Ilia State University\, a public lecture by Ioseb Chauchidze on the topic — Against Repressive hypothesis: Foucault and Psychoanalysis was conducted. \nMichel Foucault’s “Istoriq na seksualnostta” (History of Madness) can be deemed to be a more or less systematic attempt to confront Freud’s psychoanalysis. Later\, “The History of Sexuality” passed criticism upon Freud’s entire psychoanalytical theory.  In parallel to this\, Žak Lakan’s interventions shed light on new kinds of tensions in Foucault’s and Freud’s debates. Is it possible to hold a dialogue between Foucault’s genealogical and psychoanalytical methods? What kinds of political consequences can these debates yield? How can Foucault’s intervention be comprehended in the light of psychoanalysis? DESCRIPTION:On May 5\, at 19:00\, Iliauni Literature Club hosted the meeting with Personal Data Protection Deputy Inspector Nikoloz Bregvadze at Book House Ligamus of Ilia State University. \nThe Speaker gave a speech regarding the novel “Of Mice and Men” of an accomplished American writer who won the Nobel Prize for literature and the Pulitzer Prize for his book\, The Grapes of Wrath\, John Steinbeck.\nRegarding the novel “Of Mice and Men” \nThe compelling story of two outsiders striving to find their place in an unforgiving world. Drifters in search of work\, George and his simple-minded friend Lennie have nothing in the world except each other and a dream–a dream that one day they will have some land of their own. Eventually they find work on a ranch in California’s Salinas Valley\, but their hopes are doomed as Lennie\, struggling against extreme cruelty\, misunderstanding and feelings of jealousy\, becomes a victim of his own strength. She will also discuss how creative marketing ideas\, consumer-driven service and innovative thinking made the reform of the House of Justice one of the successful reforms in Georgia and Georgian “know how”. International acclaim\, thousands of impressed high-ranking foreign delegates\, state officials or successful businessmen\, United Nations Award – this is a brief list of achievements related to the House of Justice. \nRegarding the Speaker\nNino Chichua serves as a Director of Marketing and Service Department of EVEX Medical Corporation and has accumulated wide experience in governing private or state organizations. DESCRIPTION:On April 22\, at 14:00\, in E207 room of Ilia State University\, the presentation of a joint STEM Scholarship programme of BasisBank and Ilia State University (ISU) will be held. \nThe budget of STEM scholarship programme is about 30 000 GEL. This scholarship fund is intended to be used to finance the current and future students of Ilia State University bachelor’s degree programmes of San Diego State University. \n5 students with highest scores in 2016 United National Exams having enrolled in Ilia State University bachelor’s degree programmes  of San Diego State University will get a scholarship voucher GEL 4000. \nGEL 2000 scholarship vouchers will be bestowed upon those first year students attending Ilia State University bachelor’s degree programmes of San Diego State University\, who are to be sent to San Diego State University\, the USA\, for a year. DESCRIPTION:On April 5\, at the initiative of Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) and Public Policy Research and Training Centre (PPRTC)\, at lecture hall E207 of Ilia State University\, the presentation of new educational project will be held. \nWithin the frameworks of the project\, the graduates of Stanford University Leadership Academy for Development (LAD) will offer the MA students of Public Administration (MPA) the course of lectures on the issue of Georgia’s Integration into Europe. \nSpeeches will be made by: Douglas Ball\, Director of  The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)\, Rector of Ilia State University\, Giga Zedania\, Executive Director of Economic Policy Research Centre\, Nino Evgenidze. \nThe first session of EPRC/LAD lectures will be held at Ilia State University from April 5 to 29. \nThe lectures will be given by the executives of public service and non-governmental organisations\, who were directly involved in the reformation of public sector\, international negotiations and/or research activities. \nThe course covers the issues as follows: \nEuropean integration and the impact of this process on Georgia’s economy\, visa liberalisation process\, anti-European narrative in Georgian media\, etc. \nSee the detailed programme of the course of lectures here. \nDate and time: April 5\, 18:00 \n\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

SUMMARY:Public Lecture of Research Associate of the University of Cambridge\, Thomas Hopkins: Democracy and Industry in Post-Revolutionary France
DESCRIPTION:On April 5\, at 16:00\, at A 101 auditorium of Ilia State University\, at the invitation of Iliauni Social and Cultural Research Institute\, Research Associate in history and politics at the University of Cambridge\, Thomas Hopkins\, will deliver the public lecture: Democracy and Industry in Post-Revolutionary France. \nIn the 19th century\, widespread was the belief according to which the foundation of ancient states\, in fact\, was slavery\, while modern European societies rested on the industry formed by their citizens.\nPublic life was deemed to be the system of means and aims the basis of which was the so-called “Division of Labour.”\nPolitics could have been viewed as an extension of this system\, with its selective similarity between its representative governance and commercial society. \nThis lecture will shed light on the importance of the ideas of the 19th century in the 20th century\, as well as the part these ideas played to create a proper ground for the development of socialist reasoning. The story revolves around Henri Saint-Simon and his thoughts. His aspiration to replace “People’s Government” with “the administration of things” influenced such critically different thinkers as: Ogist Kont\, Karl Marx\, John Stuart Mill and Herbert Spenser.\nRegarding the speaker: \nHistorian of politics\, Thomas Hopkins\, has delivered lectures in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge since 2015; at the same time\, he has been a bye-fellow in History and Politics at Christ’s College\, University of Cambridge.\nIn 2014-2015\, he taught the history of political thought at the University of London. \nIn 2011\, at Christ’s College of the University of Cambridge\, Thomas Hopkins defended his PHD thesis in the field of history\, with the title: “Say and Sismondi on the political economy of post-revolutionary. Europe.” \nIn 2005-2006\, Hopkins studied at the same university on the Master’s programme of philosophy with special emphasis on political thought and intellectual history. \nSelected publications: \n2015 ‘The Limits of “Cosmopolitical Economy”: Smith\, List and the Paradox of Peace through Trade’\, in T. Hippler and M. DESCRIPTION:On April 4\, at 15:00\, at Book House Ligamus of Ilia State University\, at the invitation of Iliauni Social and Cultural Research Institute\, Research Associate in history and politics at the University of Cambridge\, Thomas Hopkins\, will deliver the public lecture: Political Theory and Its History. \nWhy do we need to learn the history of political thought? Obviously\, for the purposes of getting a better understanding of politics. The vast majority of modern philosophers cannot stand a temptation of defining politics as the realm of applied ethics. In case of such an approach\, the purpose of theory proves to be identification of “norms.” As for practical politics\, its aim appears to be to make the world compatible with the programme devised by the theory.
