DESCRIPTION:The “Caucasus Initiative” is a new independent and unaligned European Policy Center committed to\ndialogue and discovery. The mission of our research team is to analyze contemporary issues related to de facto states and the Black Sea area\, enriching perceptions of the region and furthering international\nunderstanding. \nThe Center is not taking any institutional policy positions. Our research team is publishing a range of\nviews from our members and external contributors\, free to express their own view on the issues related to the Caucasus. \nThe Policy Center is conduction research on the following topics: \n\nThe conflict between Armenia\, and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh\nThe conflict between Georgia and Abkhazia\nThe conflict between Georgia and South-Ossetia\n International Law in Caucasus\n Security and Defence in Caucasus\n Migration and refugee crisis in Caucasus\nEnvironmental issues in Caucasus\n Challenges in the EU’s and EEU’s neighbourhoods\n\nThe Policy Center brings together key actors from the broad policy community in Europe and Russia –\npoliticians\, officials\, media\, academia\, diplomats\, business\, unions\, NGOs – during events and\nconferences. \nPRESENTERS\nDr. Michael Eric LAMBERT\nMichael owns a Ph.D. in History of Europe & International Relations at Sorbonne University (France)\nwith a focus on the EU-Russia in post-Soviet space. Following publications for the French Ministry of\nArmed Forces\, he worked at the University of Ottawa (Canada) as a Visiting Researcher. He joined the\nCaucasus Initiative in April 2016.\nHe will present the project in general and his main conclusions regarding the increasing\ninfluence of the Eurasian Economic Union in Caucasus. \nSophie CLAMADIEU\nFollowing her dual Master / LLM at the University of Aix Marseille (France) and the University of\nOttawa (Canada)\, Sophie did an internship at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and the International\nCriminal Tribunal for the Former-Yugoslavia in the Hague. She joined Caucasus Initiative in April 2016.\nShe will present her main conclusions regarding the partial recognition of Abkhazia by the\nInternational Community. \nMihail PRESLE\nMihail is currently enrolled in IESEG’s M.Sc. in Management and Finance (France) with a focus on\nInternational economics and trade in the post-Soviet space. He joined the Caucasus Initiative in Mai 2017.\nHe will present his opinion regarding the DCFTA agreement between the European Union and\nGeorgia. \n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]

DESCRIPTION:Speaker Prof. Christian Körner  \nProfessor Christian Körner is one of the most luminous representatives of the famous School of Alpine Ecology of Innsbruck. He was born in 1949 in the city of Salzburg\, Austria. He defended his doctoral thesis on the issues of alpine plant ecology under the supervision of famous Physiological Plant Ecologist Walter Larcher. Before 1989\, he worked at the Institute of Botany of Innsbruck. In 1989\, he was granted the title of the professor of Botany and took up the post of the director at the Institute of Botany\, University of Basel. Since 2015\, he has been the professor emeritus. He is the author of more than 400 science articles and several books. Prof. Körner also was the member of editorial board of Science Journal. At present\, he is the editor of journals Oekologia and Alpine Botany and member of science academies at a number of countries. He has been involved in active cooperation with his colleague scientists at Ilia State University and the Institute of Botany for 40 years. His book Alpine Plant Life: Functional plant ecology was published in Georgian by ISU. DESCRIPTION:On June 19\, at Ilia State University (ISU) Book House “Ligamus”\, a presentation of “the Southern Elephant\,” the best Georgian novel by laureate Archil Kikodze named by Iliauni literary contest called the Best Georgian Novel will be conducted. “The Southern Elephant” is the first novel by the writer. DESCRIPTION:On June 27\, at 17:00\, at Ilia State University (ISU) Book House Ligamus\, Doctor Hans Gutbrod will give a public lecture on the topic Why Research is Only of Academic Nature: Possibilities in Research in Politics”. \nRegarding Speaker  \nDoctor Hans Gutbrod is a coordinator of Transparify\, which is a political financing transparency initiative. He has worked with research organizations in North America\, Latin America\, Africa\, Europe and Asia\, has analyzed think tank finance\, and consults on policy research\, currently out of Tbilisi\, Georgia.
