SUMMARY:NOVEL HYPOTHESIS OF ORIGIN OF LIFE: QUADRUPLEX WORLD
DESCRIPTION:University’s Faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine and Senior Researcher in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Ohio State University (USA)\, will present a seminar titled “A New Hypothesis of the Origin of Life: A Quadruplex World.” \nOverview of the Topic: \nThe widely accepted RNA world hypothesis for the origin of life is paradoxical and struggles to address critical questions without contradicting the principle of evolutionary continuity. In this seminar\, the speaker will introduce an alternative hypothesis – the quadruplex world. This hypothesis transforms the origin of life into a fully analyzable scientific issue\, offering explanations for (1) the emergence of primitive life forms\, (2) the development of Darwinian evolution\, and (3) the gradual transformation of these life forms into contemporary biology – all while upholding the principle of evolutionary continuity. \nReferences: \n[1] Kankia B. 2021. Which came first: the chicken\, the egg\, or guanine? Submitted to RNA \nWorking Language: Georgian \nDate and Time: July 23\, 15:00 \nLocation: Ilia State University\, G106 Auditorium\, N1 G. Tsereteli St. \nEveryone interested is welcome.

SUMMARY:OPEN DAY FOR PROMOTION OF NATURAL SCIENCES IN THE BOTANICAL GARDEN
DESCRIPTION:On 12 July\, from 15:00 to 18:00\, Ilia State University will hold an open day to promote natural sciences at the Botanical Garden event square. This event\, which marks the 90th anniversary of the Niko Ketskhoveli Institute of Botany\, is organized in cooperation with the National Botanical Garden of Georgia and supported by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (SPG-23-1618). \nFounded in 1933\, the Niko Ketskhoveli Institute of Botany plays a leading role in researching and inventorying Georgia’s flora and vegetation. \nResearch groups from the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Ilia State University will host engaging activities and conduct experiments at the event. They will showcase significant projects\, achievements\,  and processes involving modern technology used in scientific research to advance and promote natural sciences. \nGuests will have the opportunity to visit several tents featuring different attractions: \n\nNiko Ketskhoveli Institute of Botany tent – herbarium exhibition;\nSpace Research Center tent – planetarium and solar observation with a telescope;\nInstitute of Applied Physics tent;\nInstitute of Ecology tent;\nInstitute of Chemical Biology tent;\nTent of the Centre for Technological Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development;\nInstitute of Earth Sciences tent;\nTent of the SALiS Laboratory and Young Scientists Clubs;\nTent of the Institute of Zoology;\nand more.\n\nA Botanical Character Illustration Workshop will also be conducted during the event. \nParticipants will be able to invent and illustrate a character using botanical forms\, learn how to find examples\, distinguish\, outline\, simplify\, and integrate forms\, and grasp fundamental principles of character illustration\, such as silhouette\, color\, and accentuation. This workshop will enable you to bring to life a fictional botanical character of your own creation. \nAge limit: 15+ \nSkill level: Any \nDuration: 2 hours with a 10-minute break \nParticipants will receive all necessary materials\, including sheets of paper\, a simple pencil\, a black ink pen\, parchment paper\, and coloring tools like markers and colored pencils. \nYou may bring your graphic tablet or laptop with drawing applications (Procreate App\, Photoshop\, Sketch). \nTo register for the workshop\, use the following link: https://forms.gle/XvvsFcWxiCuXGAeh9 \nPlease note that due to limited space\, attendance is limited to the first 20 registrants. \nRegistration deadline: July 10\, 18:00 \nDate and Time: July 12\, 15:00 \nLocation: Botanical Garden Event Square \nEveryone interested is welcome. \n\nGuests at the event will be able to visit the National Herbarium of Georgia. \nThe importance of the herbarium as a national treasure is determined by the following: \nThe herbarium collections\, totaling over 1\,000\,000 plants and fungi\, serve as the cornerstone for all ongoing and future research and study projects on utilizing the plant resources of Georgia and the Caucasus. This includes studying habitats and the distribution areas of individual species. \nIt stands as a unique historical documentation of Georgia’s plant resources\, compiled by renowned researchers who specialize in the flora of the Caucasus and Georgia. \nTo join the tour\, please register at the following link: https://shorturl.at/CgFwO \nRegistration Deadline: July 10\, 18:00 \nDate and Time: July 12\, 16:00 and 17:00 \nLocation: Niko Ketskhoveli Institute of Botany
