SUMMARY:Press Conference by the Research Centre for Georgian Theatre
DESCRIPTION:On January 13\, 13:00\, ISU Bookstore “Ligamus” will host a press conference of the Research Centre for Contemporary Georgian Theatre\, dedicated to the results of the Georgian theatre statistical research 2013. The study is based on the data derived from 37 working theatres (Tbilisi\, independent\, regional) in Georgia. \nThe press conference will reveal the successful theatres in the following categories: \n\nPremiere-distinguished Theatres;\nTheatres distinguished by International tours;\nTheatres distinguished by domestic tours;\nThe best host theatres;\nModern Georgian playwright whose plays are frequently staged;\nActive theatres;\nTheatres distinguished by audience turnout;\nThe most productive directors\, theater designers\, actors of 2013;\n\nThe research is prepared according to the quantitative indicators only and does not reflect the quality of the performances and roles performed by actors. \nThe press conference will be attended by Lasha Chkhartishvili\, Head of the Research Centre for Contemporary Georgian Theatre\, Nikoloz Tsulukidze\,  Head of the Georgian Theatre Critics Union\, Irina Gogoberidze\, Director of the Georgian Section of International Theatre Critics Association\, and Maka Vasadze\, President of the Union “Culture”. \nSee the research results and full data on the web portal – www.georgiantheatre.ge \nImportant Theatrical Events 2013 \nThe year 2013 was marked as significant\, successful\, and a year of great changes for the Georgian Theater. The theatres started the functioning in line with the new “Law on Professional Theatres”. In 2013\, new artistic directors were appointed in the fifty theatres. The Ministry of Culture started the working on the creation of the cultural policy conception. During 2013\, more than 200 new plays were performed in 48 state and private theatres\, which is 46% higher to the last year’s outcomes. \nAccording to the Research Centre for Contemporary Georgian Theatre\, the important theatrical events are the Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre\, re-establishment of Mikheil Tumanishvili International Art Festival “The Gift”\, the awarding ceremony of Drama Festival “Duruji”\, the opening of new theatrical spaces – “New Stage Theatre” and “Theatre Factory. \nThe Georgian theatre gained a great success on the international arena in 2013. More than 10 theatres have been on tour abroad and the most notable is the European tour of Marjanishvili Theatre\, with play “As You like It” by Levan Tsuladze. The performance was presented for the second time at the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre within the festival “World Globe”. \nThe important event was the international success of Tbilisi A. Griboedov Russian State Drama Theatre. The play “The Story of a Horse” by Avtandil Varsimashvili became the Grand Prix winner of International Slavic Culture “Golden Knight Art Festival”. Griboedov Theatre was awarded the prize “Theatrical Star” in the nomination “The Best Russian Theater Abroad”. \nThe following plays gained a particular approval in 2013: “The Trojan Women” (Royal District Theatre\, Director Data Tavadze)\, “The Gronholm Method” (Marjanishvili Theatre\, Director Temur Chkhaidze)\, “The Winter’s Tale” (Young Spectators’ State Theatre\, Director Data Tavadze)\, “Callas” (theatre “The Factory”\, Director Robert Sturua)\, “Tartuffe” (Marjanishvili Theatre\, Director Levan Tsuladze). \nDuring 2013\, the Young Spectators’ State Theatre\, the theatres of Poti\, Batumi\, and ISU Theatre were under the construction. Since the New Year\, the theatres have performed the premieres in the newly-reconstructed buildings. \nThe Georgian Theatre has suffered a significant loss in 2013. The Actors Otar Megvinetukhutsesi\, Guram Sagaradze\, Rezo Tavartkiladze\, Directors Giga Lortkipanidze and Levan Mirtskhulava\, Scenographer Temur Ninua and Theatre Scientist Natela Urushadze died. \nFor more information please contact: 577 904041 \n\n[wpai_display_imported_files_here]
