DESCRIPTION:Commemorating the Independence Day of Georgia\, the book “German-Georgian Cooperation in 1918: Independence of Georgia and German-Georgian Union in the South Caucasus” by Giorgi Astamadze\, will be presented at the book house Ligamus. Giorgi Astamadze is a visiting lecturer in Modern Georgian History\, master’s program at Ilia State University (ISU). \n\nSchedule \n12:00 – 12:15 Opening \n\nProfessor Nino Doborjginidze\, ISU Rector;\nErnst Peter Fischer\, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Georgia;\nStephan Malerius\, Director of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung South Caucasus Bureau.\n\n12:15 – 13:30 Speech \nTopic: German-Georgian cooperation during the final stage of World War I\, 1918 \nSpeakers: \n\nDr Giorgi Astamadze\, visiting lecturer in Modern Georgian History\, master’s program ISU;\nProfessor Stephen Jones\, head\, Center for Georgian Studies\, Harvard University\, co-head\, master’s program in Modern Georgian History\, ISU\n\nMeeting moderator – Professor Beka Kobakhidze\, co-head\, master’s program in Modern Georgian History\, ISU \nThe presentation and speech will be followed by a discussion. \n\nAbout the author \nGiorgi Astamadze received first\, a bachelor’s degree in 2008 and then a master’s degree in 2011 in History from Tbilisi State University. In 2014 he obtained a master’s degree in European Studies and then in 2021 – a doctoral degree in History from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). His PhD dissertation “German-Georgian Cooperation in 1918” was awarded magna cum laude. In various years\, he received Georgia’s Presidential Master’s and the Baden-Württemberg doctorate scholarships. He is the author of one monograph\, several scientific articles and a co-author of a compilation of sources. Since 2021\, he has been an ISU visiting lecturer and a participant in international research projects. \n\nAbout the book \nBrill | Schöningh publishing house published the book in German in 2022.
