DESCRIPTION:A public lecture on Sustainable Forest Management: Growth Models will be held on 16 October 2018\,  at 11:00\, at ISU G 106. \nSpeakers: \nGigia Aleksidze – Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia\nCriteria and Indicators of Sustainable Forest Management in Georgia. \nLars Drössler – Ilia State University\nAvailable Data on Forest Growth Assessment in Georgia \nMartin Gudde  – Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences\nNew generation of forest growth models. \nBrief description:\nAfter presenting sustainable forest management criteria and indicators\, as well as forest and the land-use atlas of Georgia (https://atlas.mepa.gov.ge/)\, the speakers will discuss the possibilities of applying the indicators to the forest and land-use atlas. The second part of the event will be devoted to available and necessary data for forest growth modelling\, such as data extraction tables\, remotely sensed data\, national forest inventory\, dendrochronic data\, etc. Finally\, state of the art approaches to forest growth modelling will be presented\, to facilitate decision-making in the process of sustainable forest management. \nLanguage: English \nTime:  22 October\, 11:00 \nVenue: Room G106\, Ilia State University (1 G. DESCRIPTION:On 22 October 2018\, at 18:00\, ISU Ligamus Book House will host Professor Hans Ulrich “Sepp” Gumbrecht’s public lecture called “Does Silicon Valley Have and Need An Epistemology? ”\nIf Hegel was to re-appear in the 21st century to ask his obsessive question where does spirit dwell?\, his attention would be captured by avant-garde engineers developing artificial intelligence in Silicon Valley. Being unable to fit within the established frames of thought\, which most of us associate with philosophy\, Silicon Valley inhabitants are obviously disregardful of traditionally-minded intellectuals. \nHowever\, do they need epistemological frames? What stands beyond their amazing and frightful fecundity? \nAbout the speaker:\nHans Ulrich “Sepp” Gumbrecht \, Honorary Doctor of the Ilia State University\, is among the most influential literary and cultural theorists. Professor at Stanford University\, he specializes in literature and philosophical traditions of France\, Spain\, Germany and Portugal.
