On June 13, at Ligamus Book House, join us for a thought-provoking discussion on: Tergdaleulebi and the Revival of Georgian National Identity
Event Overview
This event will examine the mission, work, and legacy of the Tergdaleulebi—a generation of 19th-century Georgian intellectuals and public figures like Ilia Chavchavadze who were determined to spark a national revival and civic consciousness in the country. The discussion will explore the principles that guided them, how they understood Georgian national identity, and what steps and strategy they believed were needed to renew and protect it, both from external threats and internal weaknesses of Georgian society. The conversation will also address internal tensions within the movement, its eventual decline, and what we can learn from the movement to better understand the challenges of Georgia today.
