
On June 23, at 4:30 p.m., Jill Marie Hruby, the first woman head of the US Nuclear Weapons Laboratory, the US Department of Energy’s Deputy Secretary for Nuclear Security, will hold a meeting with the students of Ilia State University, organized by the US Embassy in Georgia.
At the meeting Jill Hruby, a mechanical engineer, talks to the students about her career and activities.

About the speaker
Jill M. Hruby is an American mechanical engineer and government official. Since July 26, 2021, Hruby has served as Under Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Security and Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration, a post subject to Senate confirmation. Jill Hruby made history as the first woman to ever head a U.S. nuclear weapons lab, serving as director of Sandia National Laboratories from 2015-2017.
Hruby served as the director of Sandia National Laboratories from July 2015 through May 2017. Sandia is a Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration national laboratory with diverse national security missions that include nuclear weapons, cyberspace, energy, non-proliferation, biological defense, and space.
